I think Macbooks are Superior: An Apple Fanboy’s Rant

  • Blog

In my bookbag, I usually have two laptops: my MacBook and my Windows laptop. I need my windows for a few very specific tasks, but I much prefer my MacBook and would carry it exclusively if I could. Read this article I wrote as to why I can’t:

My MacBook is very reliable and always ready to use, no random updates and no taking forever to load up.

Ever since Apple started using their “M” series chips, it’s been really quick for the things I do regularly, like editing videos, interacting with websites in the browser, and the battery lasts long enough that I never have to worry about carrying a charger with me when I go out for the day. It also doesn’t get ripping hot and sound like a turbojet engine like PC’s tend to do.

I like how compact and portable my MacBook is. To me, the 13-inch has a footprint such that it is just large enough for me to be able to use it productively without an external monitor and small enough that I just take it everywhere so that I can do things on the go.

Another point is that it works so well with my iPhone, better than using a pc + Android combo. In my opinion, I find that it can do everything that the MacBook can, it just requires extra steps like downloading an app or doing some kind of configuration in settings. I like airdrop, I like answering calls from my laptop, I like the other little things like being able to copy text from my phone and paste it on my MacBook, and being able to simply highlight a collection of documents and turn them into one PDF. I know it’s a walled garden, but at the end of the day, it’s simply a far superior experience.

It is user-friendly. I don’t have to deal with installing drivers or watching an Indian guy on YouTube explain some complex process on how to fix something on my laptop; everything just works, so I can focus on actually getting what I want done. ( Like writing this article).

One other thing about the MacBook is that it has aura, the full metal design, glass trackpad, and just superior build quality compared to the vast majority of Windows PCs, which makes it my choice. I’ve dropped this thing more times than I can remember, and it takes it like a champ. It looks good and it feels sturdy.

There are a few things I prefer about PC however. I prefer the way it handles windows(pun intended.)I think the ways and options for tiling windows to the sides are superior, even after the update on Mac gave more tiling options. Another thing is that Iwould like to be able to download more engineering software, like Solidworks or Ansys, on it. ( I tried using SolidWorks with Parallels, but it doesn’t work with CAM; I need CAM).

Common Refutes and My Response

“Macs can’t play games” – It’s true that Macs are dogwater for playing games, they’re just not meant to. But this isn’t an issue for me, I don’t play video games on my laptop, and I don’t want to. I use my laptop mostly for productivity and watching YouTube. I’m too old for videogames, and for the rare times I do play, it’s at home on a console.

You can’t modify it – This is true, but I don’t want to. I’d rather have a laptop that’s perfect for me out of the box and not have to worry about it, than being able to upgrade it. But this is a fair point, a win for pc.

To answer the above question, the reason I have a windows laptop is because Solidworks and some of the other engineering software I use are on Windows, whilst I do everything else on a MacBook because I like using it more. My perfect computer would be my Mac + being able to download the engineering software that I use on the daily.
